The Road to the Emmys
Monday July 3, 2006
When the Emmy nominations are announced this Thursday, a new crop of nominees may have a shot at winning that golden statue this fall. In past years, it seemed like the same shows (West Wing, The Sopranos) and actors (James Gandolfini, Allison Janney) received nominations, leaving some of televisions most overlooked players (Lauren Graham/Gilmore Girls, Michael Rosenbaum/Smallville) out in the cold year after year. A few changes have been made this year: Ten nominees for Best Drama Series and Best Comedy Series were chosen by Academy voters and then a blue-ribbon panel of judges made the final five choices. The same process took place for Best Actor and Actress in the drama and comedy categories; only in this case, fifteen initially made the first cut. Will your favorites have a better shot this year? Tune in this Thursday when the Primetime Emmy nominations are announced.
