Returning this Week: Standoff

Sunday June 3, 2007
Earlier this year, fans of Fox's Standoff panicked when the network pulled the series from the schedule with the promise that it would return soon. Past experience has made viewers weary of those type of promises, but Fox is making good on their word. Beginning this Friday, Fox begins airing the remaining eight episodes of the series. When Fox delivered their Upfront presentation last month, Standoff was not on the fall or mid-season schedule, nor was it listed as officially canceled by the network. However, when a network throws a series into the Friday night hospice timeslot after the season has ended, the news is never good. Consider this series canceled, enjoy the remaining episodes and try to move on to bigger and better series coming to a tube near you this fall.

I don’t consider a series cancelled until they stop airing it. ‘Standoff’ is no exception here. Fox has yet to officially say that they have pulled the plug on this show.
Bottom line, ratings are everything right now! The first few episodes that air will determine the fate of ‘Standoff’. SO WATCH IT!!!

Wow! To say Standoff is cancelled is a bit out there. It has not been renewed for a second season as FOX is waiting on summer ratings. How about a little consideration for the fans who have been waiting for it’s return. FOX has no problem canceling anything so I think that word should be struck from articles until the network uses it. The first few episodes will be the tell-tale sign so watch Friday night.

Yet another website that wants to guess at FOX’s intentions on this show. FOX has not ever stated this show was canceled. A recent interview with cast member Michael Cudlitz tells the inside track on why they are being held in contract with FOX concerning Standoff. FOX is simply looking for ratings concerning this show, and summer ratings at that.
The interview appears in the Chicago Tribune if you guys want to do your homework and hear it straight from some associated with the show! He says and I quote: “If Fox wants to cancel a show they have no problem doing that. Standoff is coming back.”

Friday June 8th, will finally provide some decent programming for us to watch!

If websites that contain TV show informatoin spent as much time promoting a freshman show as they do guessing about it’s demise, think of how many hits we would have!!!!

The obvious hit for FOX this year was Standoff, it maintained an average rating when all other FOX new debuts were consistantly sliding. Again I point out that it was above the average pace of the shows called House and Bones when they debuted. Heck, a game show which was canceled by another network beat House out in the ratings it’s first year.

Bottom line is FOX didn’t and doesn’t have a clue how to market this edgy, refreshing plot angle of a show. It’s nice to get past the will they or won’t they stuff. They ARE and it is all about how good they are a negotiating with hostage takers, but not so good a communication with each other. This is a show about life, and in todays overly crowed market of reality crap TV shows, this one is being overlooked.

Don’t let this show slide by you, it is written well and contains enough action and enought ACTION if you know what I mean to keep everyone at home happy and interested.

Watch Standoff- Fridays at 9:00PM EST, 8:00PM CST. See what you have been missing!!!!
