Superman Gets His Supergirl

Wednesday June 13, 2007
I never followed the Superman comic book series, but I've been told that over the years, Smallville has done a great job following the mythology. From the immensely intriguing character of Lex Luthor to the lovely Lois Lane, Smallville has allowed fans of the Superman mythology the chance to see how these characters have evolved into the adults we fell in love with on the big screen. This fall, Supergirl joins the series as Kara, Clark's 19-year-old cousin who was born on Krypton and is the daughter of Zor-El, Jor-El's brother. Kara is equally as powerful as Clark, but she has one up on him -- she can fly! She'll quickly capture the interest of the evil Lex Luthor and becomes romantically involved with Jimmy Olsen. Season seven is still a few months away, but it looks as though Smallville is already off to another exciting year.

(1) Jeffrey Rubin says:

Actually, the last few seasons, the show has taken liberties that most true fans of the Superman mythos have great qualms with. Superman had alaways managed to keep his Clark Kent identity secret because the significant characters in his life, e.g., Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, Perry White, Jimmy Olson, met Clark Kent with glasses, to keep his apperance distinct somewhat from the unbespectacled Superman Persona. In the Smallville series, all these characters have bneen brought into play far too early in the evolution of the character, and all know Clark very well without his glasses, which he has not yet donned. There is no way that these significant characters could fail to recognize Superman as Clark Kent, even if Clark were now to assume the glasses, and mild meek manners of the Clark Kent who used to be so different from Superman.
