Lane Garrison Dodges a Bullet -- For Now
Thursday August 2, 2007
Former Prison Break star Lane Garrison walked into a courtroom ready to be sentenced to a possible six years for his involvement in the December 2 death of 17-year-old Vahagn Setian. After hearing pleas from the Setian's family and the two 15-year-old passengers who were injured in the accident, Superior Court Judge Elden S. Fox decided to delay sentencing for 90 days until the actor has been evaluated by psychiatrists to help determine the length of his sentence. For the time being, he was remanded into custody and sent to the county jail. It has been speculated that Garrison may only serve 90 days and then placed on probation.
"We don't have all the information. I intend to remand Mr. Garrison today to the Department of Corrections for diagnostics," said Judge Elden S. Fox as to why sentencing was delayed.During the emotionally charged hearing, Garrison offered the following statement to Setian's family:
"I've relived that night every day and have thought about bad decisions. We can't bring him back, but I just want to apologize to everyone," said Garrison. "I'm sorry for my behavior that evening. It doesn't represent who I am usually."Garrison pleaded guilty back in May to vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence, driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol level of more than 0.15 percent and a misdemeanor of providing alcohol to a minor. He returns to court on October 31 for his final sentencing. He could face a maximum sentence of six years and eight months.
