No Waiver, No Actors for Golden Globes
Friday January 4, 2008
What happens when you plan a huge party, send out invitations and buy expensive party favors and then nobody shows up? You'd have the Golden Globes! As reported earlier this week, the Hollywood Foreign Press announced their intention to attempt negotiations with the WGA after Worldwide Pants (David Letterman's company) successfully negotiated a deal that brought Dave's full writing staff back to work. Almost immediately after that announcement, the WGA stated that no deal would be made.
To add fuel to the fire, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) announced Friday that the actors will not cross the picket line for the awards ceremony in any capacity as a show of solidarity to the WGA.
SAG President Alan Rosenberg stated:
"After considerable outreach to Golden Globe actor nominees and their representatives over the past several weeks, there appears to be unanimous agreement that these actors will not cross WGA picket lines to appear on the Golden Globe Awards as acceptors or presenters. We applaud our members for this remarkable show of solidarity for striking Writers Guild of America writers."Will the Golden Globes still go on as planned? NBC is staying firm on their decision to air the ceremony -- for now. Unless a deal between the AMPTP and WGA is miraculously made by January 13, this could very well be the two most unwatched hours in the history of television.

Wow. That’s too bad. Especially for any first-time nominees who have been waiting for their big award show moment.
With all of the empty seats, how can we get our hands on tickets?
