Writers Strike Update
Wednesday February 6, 2008
Since the WGA and the studios began informal negotiations two weeks ago, we've been holding our breath, hoping for the best. Things have gone so well on the negotiation front, I've almost been afraid to say out loud that the strike would indeed soon be over. It's coming, the strike will soon be over!
After finally bridging the major gap that stood between the WGA and the AMPTP's ability to come to an agreement, the strike may be entering the final stages that will enable the writers to return to work. In order to get the writers back to work, the membership must vote to agree on the deal. The WGA has called a meeting of the membership for this Saturday in Los Angeles and New York to discuss the deal. Should the membership agree on the deal, the next step according to Nikki Finke of Deadline Hollywood is getting the legal documents approved before anyone can pick up those pencils again.
The end is in sight; we just need to hold our breaths a few more days. As for the collateral damage to the remainder of the television season....there is some good news and there is some bad news, so stay tuned for more info. (Photo by Charley Gallay/Getty Images)
