CBS Plans Ambitious Summer

Tuesday April 15, 2008
Another exciting summer awaits television fans as CBS announces a massive summer schedule that includes two brand new dramas and a smattering of reality programming and game shows. But will viewers tune in or tune out this summer?

I've always found it interesting when the big networks air new TV dramas during the summer and they wind up failing miserably. What is more intriguing is that cable networks such as TNT, FX and USA seem to dominate the ratings during the summer months. It has been years since an original series performed well on network television. In fact, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe The O.C. may have been the last successful drama to premiere in the summer.

In spite of the lack of success in previous years, CBS is forging ahead in hopes of finally breaking the summer curse with two new and exciting dramas.

Swingtown: Get out those bell bottoms and head back to the 1970s during sexual and social revolution. When a suburban family moves into a new community, they soon learn that their neighbors share much more than a cup of sugar!

Flashpoint: Developed by CTV from Canada, this series delves into the lives of a special group of cops working for the SRU. Inspired by Toronto's Emergency Task Force, these cops risk their lives everyday as they rescue hostages, bust gangs, defuse bombs, climb the sides of buildings and talk down suicidal teens.

Swingtown will premiere on June 5 and Flashpoint on July 11.

Michael Ausiello over at TVGuide.com reports that CSI star Gary Dourdan is leaving the show when his contract expires in May. Jorja Fox left the series last November, so Dourdan's exit makes this the second major CSI star to leave the show this year. Photo: Cliff Lipson/CBS © CBS Broadcasting Inc. All Rights Reserved.

I THINK IT WILL BE A REAL SHAME TO NOT HAVE FLASHPOINT TO RETURN THIS YEAR. SOME OF US LIKE THE SHOW A GREAT DEAL AND WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT TO REMAIN ON C.B.S. SOME OF THE OTHER SHOWS ARE GETTING TO BE A REAL BORE. IT I HARD TO FIND A SHOW THAT IS REFRESHING AS FLASHPOINT WAS THIS PAST YEAR. THE ACTORS THAT PLAYED THE ROLES WERE PERFECT.
