Has ABC Issued Several Pink Slips?

Thursday May 8, 2008
The annual upfront presentations hit New York next week, so naturally those cancellation rumors are running rampant. Although the networks have already issued renewals to most of their shows, those "on the bubble" series are about to find out whether or not they have earned a spot on the 2008-09 primetime schedule.

Over on ABC, several shows are in danger and it looks as though pink clips may have already been issued:
  • According to Michael Ausiello at TV Guide, the folks at Men in Trees received their walking papers last week. The remaining episodes are scheduled to begin on May 28 and will include an alternate ending taped specifically in case the show was canceled.

  • Kristin at E! Online reports that Women's Murder Club will not return next season. She also reports that Eli Stone will likely return next season.

  • A source close to ABC tells me that the network has also canceled October Road.
Men in Trees and October Road inspired truly wonderful fan campaigns that will benefit thousands of people for many years to come. The remarkable people involved in these campaigns never gave up hope and fought until the very end. Future campaigners would be smart to follow their example -- and no matter what, never give up that passion and enthusiasm for your favorite shows!

October Road has brought so many people together on and off screen. I will continue to fight for it regardless of the outcome… Thanks Rachel!

Thanks for the info Rachel but I still have a very positive feeling about October Road. ABC surely must have realized by now that if this one little show could ignite this much fire and passion in people from all walks of life then they must have something really special here. I feel that October Road should be renewed and the given the full star treatment, and then evaluate the ratings and go from there. OR is a once in a blue moon kind of show and was honestly never given the full chance it so rightly deserves. And like Jill before me said, I will not give up the fight for October Road, either!

Thanks Rachel for your continued support and another great write-up on the campaign. I’ll also continue to fight to bring “October Road” back on the air, if we’re indeed cancelled on Tuesday. We also have put forth a Plan B and are calling and e-mailing ABC Family to pick it up. While they’ve already had their upfront, the series has too much potential to be left on the sidelines. It would be a perfect fit with their programming and ABC Family is also within the corporate family. We’re going to continue the “Pay October Road Forward” campaign, e-mailing the show’s sponsors, writing ABC Studios, and just generally continue to get the word out even further. We’ll continue to write and call ABC for the foreseeable future.

I hadn’t heard that October Road was canceled.
Are you sure about that one? I hope your source is wrong. It is one of my favorite shows. I will be very disappointed if it is canceled.

Rachel,

Thanks again for your support of October Road! I have to say I’m disappointed with your news. Although I’m not believing anything until we hear it from the horses mouth, that being ABC. There are many, many loyal fans and we will not give up, even if the news is the dreaded C word! Long live October Road!

If ABC decides to cancel this show, I feel that it would be a HUGE mistake. This show is THE best show out there and can bring entertainment to its viewers for a long time, if given a good chance to shine.

Thanks for your comments regarding the fans of October Road. I certainly hope that ABC sees that we will continue to fight and I hope that we get our season 3. I will do whatever it takes for October Road to stay on the air on ABC or elsewhere.

It is so wrong of ABC to cancel Men in Trees and October Road. They were both great shows. Get rid of Wife Swap…it is truly disgusting, pointless, and insulting to our intelligence. And what’s up with the new Ashton Kutcher sponsored reality show. It sounds so stupid and mind numbing. There…two slots would open up to keep MIT and OR.

Thank you for your support Rachel. Even though October Road has been declared “canceled,” that doesn’t mean we are giving up. We are here for the long run and we will never stop fighting for our beloved, favorite show…October Road :) October Road is an incredible show, with the best cast and crew! SAVE OCTOBER ROAD!!!
