Moonlight Fans Sink Teeth into Campaign

Wednesday May 21, 2008
When CBS announced their 2008-09 schedule, fans of the vampire series Moonlight were devastated when they learned their beloved show had been canceled. Although it's extremely rare that a network would reconsider a cancellation after their upfront presentation has been delivered, those dedicated fans aren't about to sit back and let their favorite vampire spend eternity in his coffin.

Operation Renew Moonlight

This weekend is the first annual Moonlight convention (MoonlightCon) at The Westin Hotel in Los Angeles, but due to the recent cancellation, campaigners have organized a rally outside the Warner Bros. gate at the corner of North Pass and West Olive streets on Friday, May 23rd at 2:00 pm PST.

In addition to the rally, campaigners also spent a tremendous amount of money to purchase ads in Variety and The Hollywood Reporter. Their intentions are to both thank the cast and crew for creating this wonderful series, and prove to other networks that if they picked up the series, an intensely loyal fan base is prepared to follow the show anywhere.

A passionate Operation Renew Moonlight campaigner explains why another network should pickup the series: "Perpetual coolness is the vampire’s curse......pickup Moonlight and be perpetually cool! Eight million Moonlight fans have enjoyed perpetual coolness this season. Can we come be cool on your network next season?" Photo: Cliff Lipson © CBS Broadcasting Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Rachel - thank your for your positive coverage of our cause.
I would like to add that many Moonlight fans who contributed money to the campaign for the ads in Variety and The Hollywood Reporter donated EQUAL amounts to various charities such as the Red Cross and the VFW.
There is a special quality to the fans of Moonlight - we don’t’ want to knock anyone, put anyone down, or bombard people with tons of anything…..we just want this show to be given the chance to to reach it’s full potential.
We just want our show back - that’s all. We’ll follow this show to any network in any time slot and will continue our devotion where ever someone allows us that chance.

Thanks for the coverage of our efforts. It is very much appreciated. We are working hard to try and get another network to realize Moonlight’s potential and give it a well-deserved chance. We don’t forget the people who have helped and so this is appreciated.

Thanks for the report on our efforts to find a home for Moonlight. I am constantly amazed at how this show has touched so many people in all walks of life. Whatever happens I will always be proud that I was a part of this battle to save a special show with a great cast. I have never even written a network before - never was important enough. I am still amazed that fans sent over $14,000 to a virtual stranger for those ads because this meant so much to them. (Amazed that I did too!)

Thanks for the positive comments regarding our show. If my daughter knew how much I have been emailing and posting for this show — she wouldn’t believe it! I work on the computer at the office alot. To use my spare time being online, believe me is a miracle in itself!

Ha! I just ranted about this very thing in the forums, regarding “Journeyman” and others. YES…”Moonlight” is another one that is prematurely getting the boot. Unfair, unwarranted, and indicative of the major networks’ chronic lack of vision.

I applaud the efforts to make “Moonlight” UNDEAD again (lol), and I hope it works. We viewers shouldn’t have to work so hard to be genuinely entertained!

(9) Joyce says:

Thank you for your positive comments on Moonlight. This is a show that my daughters and their friends and I enjoy watching together. Each week the storyline got better and better. We will be following this show to whatever network picks it up. Thank you again for helping make our fight more visible.

(11) Brandy Cole says:

Im glad you covered this. This helps spread the word about the campaign.
It never fails that any show I like gets cancelled. I hold my breath at the end of every season. Im afraid to say I like a show. But shows I couldnt care less about get a free pass.
This show is a perfect compliment to Ghist Whisperer.

(12) Edgenora says:

I can’t believe that CBS, who rescued Jag when NBC canceled it, will cancel a show that has not really been given a chance. It’s a show that already has a following. Not one that is untried. Why don’t these networks that have shows they are considering canceling, run them during the summer months instead of putting some of the inane mess of reality shows. They think the reality shows are great, but I have never watched but one and that is “Dancing With the Stars”. Give us something to sink our teeth into, pun intended.
