The 2007-08 television season is just about over and we've been treated all month long to some of the most riveting, explosive, edge-of-your-seat season finales ever!
When Desperate Housewives returns this fall, will it be five years later or present day? Will Meredith and Derek's relationship survive this time around on Grey's Anatomy? What does the future hold for the newly relocated Losties who were left behind? Will Dr. Crabby Pants ever wake up in a good mood on House?

The best season finale is the one that isn’t listed here! October Road!! You just cannot beat it and we are not letting it go that easy either. We are STILL FIGHTING to have this show brought back. That is right, still fighting, and even Scott Rosenberg posted at our boards and said he would have no problem continuing with this show if ABC brought it back. Truly fabulous show. A shame it was canceled despite our efforts with our Pay October Road Forward campaign, which IS bringing on new viewers still. Long Live the Road!!!
I agree! I will go with October Road season 1 finale as my favorite finale ever. “The twirl” scene was the best television I have seen in 5 years.
I sure hope we get more October Road. It was brought to an end before its time.
Rachel, I’ve always had a deep respect for your column, as you always seem on top of all the news in TV. So I am truly floored that you did not include OCTOBER ROAD in your poll for best finale. What goes on there? OR had us all riding the emotional roller coaster in their finale, from the anticipation and exhiliration of 2 whole hours of OR, to learning of the Commander’s cancer, to Rory’s untimely return to the Ridge that caused Janet to turn to Rooster for comfort, the Aubrey/Ronnie kiss, Eddie getting the crap beat out of him and of course, that heartbreaking Jeddie hospital scene. Topping everything off was the awesome 5 minute windup set to REO Speedwagon’s Roll With the Changes. So many of us were so wired yet exhausted from watching that finale that we actually had trouble falling asleep afterwards. I grew up watching the masters of season finales do their stuff and believe me, even the early Dallas writers could not have done this one any finer. We Roadies are not through with fighting to get October Road back, either, not by a long shot. We have new fans coming aboard every day so the numbers who want more OR are ever increasing. This quality show is so deserving of a FULL season to strut it’s stuff, the way that other shows receive. Long Live the Road indeed!
Um, what about the October Road season finale? That season finale was AMAZING! I’m still not over it — it was that good. From start to end, it was a roller coaster of emotions and it was incredibly intense.
OCTOBER ROAD, OCTOBER ROAD, OCTOBER ROAD, a thousand times over. The season 2 finale was unbelievable. I was on the edge of my seat by the end…actually I was sitting on the floor. Screaming at the TV, covering my eyes and crossing my fingers..now THAT is television. Everyone I know who watched it said they were up for hours tossing and turning. I’ve seen a lot of TV and will see alot more…but I doubt I will witness another 2 hours like that. There are still messages flying all over abc.com asking for more October Road and the finale was almost 3 months ago. This is one show that should be brought back…for sure!!!!!

I had actually thought about adding shows like OR and Jericho, but since they turned out to be series finales (ouch, that hurt to say that!), I couldn’t have a poll mixing both. I also only have 10 slots in our poll tool, so my choices are very limited.
However, I got an email today from a reader who suggested making a poll for series finales and I had been kicking around the idea for quite some time now.
So….let me get your consensus – if I were to do a poll in this theme, should it be most heart-wrenching cancellation of the season or best series finales for this season?
If I do the series finales or worst cancellations from this year, besides OR, what would be your other choices?

October Road had the best season finale! It was explosive. It was fast paced and so much happened. We got some answers and endings to some storylines but some got some startling surprises as well. October Road is the greatest and ABC needs to rethink their decision and bring it back!
Well my vote is definetly for October Road, It was the best season finale I have seen in a long time. It doesn’t get any better than that.I know that it is “cancelled” but we are still fighting to bring this wonderful show back.
There have been other shows that have been brought back after it was cancelled, so with that in mind we will fight to get one of the best shows that has been on the air in a long time.

My answer would be the same for heart-wrenching cancellation and best finale – October Road to both. Also, it was a heart-wrenching finale too with they way the storylines all cut off. Such turmoil…..

Ok, these were my top 5 season finale’s this year:
1. October Road
2. Bones
3. Lost
4 Grey’s Anatomy
5. Ugly Betty
October Road had the biggest cliff hangers of all 5 of these. There was a cliff hanger in all 5, but all of them wrapped up a major story line as part of the finale. Yes there were some more questions added for Lost, Ugly Betty, and Bones. But the biggest, most amazing cliffhangers of them all is October Road. No story line was wrapped up for October Road, every thing was left up in the air. Not one story line was wrapped, with the exception of Nick not leaving town after all.
Heres every single thing I can think of that was left as a cliff hanger for October Road fans:
Who is Sam’s dad? Will B.C. be caught in all his lies and for beating up Eddie? Will Eddie forgive Janet and get back together? Will the commander survive bone cancer? Will Nick and Hannah make their way back to each other? Will Ronnie and Aubrey become a couple and tell Nick? Will Owen really forgive Ikey and get back with Allison? Will we ever find any of this out, because October Road was cancelled by ABC?? I don’t know, only if they bring it back for 6 more episodes. The dumbiest move ever, IMO, ABC cancelling October Road! They should give it another chance and see us fan’s bring in the ratings they want!

I have to agree with the other comments that say October Road had the best finale. I am not thinking of it as a series finale just yet, as we are all hoping ABC will see their mistake and bring the show back.
As far as the other choices listed? I don’t watch a single one of those shows.
I WANT OCTOBER ROAD BACK, I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I AM GOING TO WATCH THIS YEAR. I LOVED THAT SHOW, IT WAS PROBABLY ONE OF THE BEST SHOWS YET SINCE DAWSON’S CREEK AND BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER. I WAS REALLY HOPING THIS SHOW WOULD HAVE BEEN ON AT LEAST 5 SEASONS. I WANT TO KNOW WHY IT WAS CANCELED. I HOPE ABC KNOWS HOE MUCH THIS SHOW MEANS TO OCT. RD. FANS. PLEASE RECONSIDER THE CANCELLATION GIVE IT ONE MORE SEASON AT LEAST, NOT JUST A ONE HOUR FINALE.
Well, I will be saying what basically everyone that has left a comment so far has said, OCTOBER ROAD!
Even though it’s not listed. I am not going to include October Road as being “canceled” because we are still fighting like crazy for the show, the writers/crew, the cast and each other. I will say that the season 2 finale was unbelievable! Without a doubt, the best season finale I have ever seen! Okay, the scene with Janet and Eddie, when Eddie yells at her to get out and he cries when she leaves. WOW! Rebecca & Geoff were as always, amazing. We have to make sure to keep that as the “season 2 finale” and make sure there are more incredible season finales like that. SAVE OCTOBER ROAD!!!
I think October Road should be included in the list. You’ve got quite the selection of shows but some are pretty sucky. I’ll leave that up to others to decide. I did LOVE lost. They told us someone would die but who? Yeah, Jim blew up and Locke is in a coffin but it’s LOST so who knows who is really dead. I cannot wait for next season. January is just too far away.
So,most heart-wrenching season finale AND cancellation. Of course, October Road. However I cannot put the words cancellation and October Road within the same sentence, as we roadies are really holding out for a miracle that the powers that be at ABC will finally hear our cry and see the demand that continues 12 WEEKS after the final episode aired. I can assure you, the fight has not left us. There was not a single storyline wrapped up in the Season 2 finale. I cannot believe that they will just leave the faithful fans hanging without the answers to all of our questions. I would have to agree with the best season finale being October Road. All the story lines that they have and all the answers we need that was a great written finale. ABC is going to be missing alot in their fall line up when October Road does not come back.

The Best is October Road. It left me upset for a week. All the open questions??? I still hoping for ABC to see the light and bring this awesome show back.

Not to sound like a broken record or anything, but October Road gets my vote. Looks like so far, it’s been pretty unanimous. Not bad for a show not even included on the list. We “roadies” haven’t given up on getting our favorite show back on somebody’s fall lineup. Any network would be doing themselves a favor in picking it up. Stay focused gang and long live OR!

darn, i really wanted to perticipate on this poll, but the show I thought had the best season finale was not listed, by the way that show Is October Road, It by far had the best season finale!!!!I LOVED IT!!!!
My favorite finale was also October Road. I was left feeling exhausted yet exilirated. That is until I found out it had been cancelled. How on earth can ABC cancel such a wonderful show? I have turned many, many people on to OR and they all love it as much as I do. As soon as people give it a chance, they love it!
Really, that’s all it needs is a chance. Stuck in a sucky time slot, lots of people were never even aware of it.

Moonlight’s season finale was the best, hands down! I wish “Sonata” had been included on your poll. I won’t say more because I don’t want to spoil it for any people who (unforunately) haven’t seen it, but ML was and will be again the best show on TV.
I agree with Lisa, MOONLIGHT’s finale was incredible. It had everything from drama to action to romance. It was very well done. You didn’t have to be a regular fan to appreciate what an amazing episode it was. I am in support of its return. You don’t see too many shows of this quality anymore.
You forgot to add Moonlight. The season finale “Sonata” was excellent. Can’t wait to see what network will pick it up for season 2. I am sure it will happen. It is best show I have seen in a long time !

Moonlight’s “Sonata” was the best season finale hands down! Everything that a show should have, action, drama, witty humor and romance. The show brought back most the cast for the season finale, that was a plus. Although this could be the end of Moonlight, (hopefully not) the writers left us with all kinds of new plotlines to explore with a Season Two. I keep fighting for this show because it is the best of it’s kind to come along in a long, long time, the BEST. VSRRR!!
You forgot the best season finale ever-Moonlight’s “Sonata” It was a very satisfying conclusion to season 1 that left you thirsting for season 2!
Moonlight season finale was fantastic and should have been included in the poll. Sonata was the name and it was packed with action and intrigue and ended with the romance in full bloom.
MOONLIGHT was the best. Action, mystery and romance and it ended with a long awaited declaraton of love and a kiss between mick and beth

Well, of course MOONLIGHT had the best SEASON (not series) finale with Sonata. That storyline with the couple that had been together for so long was really romantic. Then that KISS. Oh my gosh, that was so beautiful…and Mick told Beth he loved her! Then the list…wow, that will make for an interesting next season. I can’t wait!

Best season finale? October Road! Fans were left with too many open questions? Janet and Eddie –will they make up? Why was Eddie beaten up? Does Hannah believe it was big cat? will ikey be allowed back in the group? Will physical phil and pizza girl remain together? will we ever learn her really name?

The best season finale was a tie. It was October Road and Men In Trees. Both of these shows are great and I for one cannot believe ABC is canceling them. BIG MISTAKE!!!!! THE FANS ARE VERY LOYAL TO BOTH OF THESE SHOWS!

I can’t believe that October Road is being canceled. This is a great family show and brings entertainment to the whole family. I always enjoye themes and the music. I lost my mom right after the episode where they lost their friend and the show brought comfort to me. Please don’t cancel October Road. It is a great show with lots to offer.
October Road will be truly missed and ABC will regret this one, sooner than later. I have begun both internally and externally to bocott ABC shows, including Home Improv and Desp Housewives. Mostly bc I am so disappointed the whole network is tainted to me now. How unfortunate – its obvious this show really rates and the late night hour it was on was unfair to judge it by that – guess what would have happened if it was earlier? Yep – again Absolute Bum Ceo’s let me down again :*(
