The Future of 'Melrose Place' Looking Brighter

Tuesday December 16, 2008
When I first heard rumblings that a spinoff of the '90s hit series Melrose Place was in the works, I wasn't sure it was actually going come to fruition. According to Zap2it, the Melrose Place spinoff is one step closer to becoming a reality now that Mark Schwahn (creator of One Tree Hill) has become the leading candidate to develop the series for CBS Paramount TV.

Melrose Place was a big hit for a few years on Fox, but its popularity certainly didn't have the staying power of Beverly Hills 90210 (a.k.a. the Mothership) back in the '90s. Once the series began introducing a whole new set of characters, the show quickly went downhill and was canceled in its 7th season. The series did manage to launch the careers of several television stars including Marcia Cross, Kristin Davis, Doug Savant and Courtney Thorne-Smith.

Will Melrose Place find an audience in today's world? Are we ready for another steamy primetime soap? Which characters would you most like to see return for the spinoff? Post your thoughts below!

I would watch it! I used to be a huge fan…back in the day!

Melrose Place just wouldn’t be complete without Heather Locklear as Amanda Woodward. I’d like to see Jack Wagner as well, but he’s busy at B&B. Peter and Amanda were the hottest couple on that show, IMO. Jack and Heather had fabulous chemistry together.

It would probably be like on the new 90210, whole new cast, except Jennie Garth and Shannon Dorrety. I’m upset about this because I’m a huge One Tree Hill fan. I love Sophia Bush. If One Tree Hill ends because of this maybe they could have Sophia in Melrose.

I think they should bring back Amanda, and Peter, and Alison, and Billy… They were the two most HOTTEST couple’s on the show !!!!!!!!

If Heather Locklear is starring again as Amanda, I will watch the new Melrose. I hope the producers learn the lessons of the new 90210, and not bring back old characters as back-story characters instead of mixing them full force within the new characters storylines, which, if done properly, would work seamlessly on the new Melrose. But if Heather isn’t the star, I won’t bother watching.
