Gossip Girl Threesome Causes a Stir

Monday November 9, 2009

Three may be a crowd in most relationships, but when it comes to Gossip Girl, it's simply the controversy du jour.

Since the very beginning, Gossip Girl has stirred the pot with racy storylines and jaw-dropping ads. However, the latest storyline, which involves major characters in a threesome, has sent the Parents Television Council (PTC) into an absolute frenzy. The group has targeted CW affiliates in an effort to stop them from airing Monday's episode.

The PTC issued a press release to the affiliates stating, "To include a storyline like this on a program that is expressly targeted to impressionable teenagers is reckless and irresponsible. We are asking each CW Network affiliate to use their common sense and preempt this episode."

What do you think about the CW's latest effort to lure in viewers with another scandalous episode of Gossip Girl? Should parents allow their teens to watch this episode? Is the PTC making a big deal over nothing? Sound off below!

(1) Maggie Stein says:

Whats the big deal with a THREESOME?

JFK tried to get MARILYN MONROE & PIN UP GIRL JEANNE CARMEN into a Threesome back in the swinging 60’s and he’s the most beloved President of all time.

You can read the whole story at this link

Its time the PARENTS TELEVISION COUNCIL got over it.

(2) Kerry says:

I have a lot more problem with the explicit violence that kids are exposed to on a regular basis than an episode on a threesome.

Does Maggie have kids and how screwed up are they?

(4) Sandra says:

We don’t even know how they are going to handle it. Did they really have a threesome, or did they just crash together? Will it have consequences that they have to deal with, or just be brushed off?

Anyone who things that teenagers have never heard of threesomes is living in a fairy-tale world. If the decision has tough consequences, it could actually be a very beneficial topic.

(5) Laura says:

It’s absolutely disgusting to the depth that we Americans have allowed social standards to fall. All is driven by the Almighty Dollar. There are no morals or ethics. Its so sad. I would say keep an eye on what your kids watch. If you find something objectionable put a Parental Lock on that station and don’t watch anything on that network – spread the word – voice your concerns to other parents.

(7) Stephanie says:

There are worse things on t.v. already up an running, CSI, NCIS, Numbers, etc. These are very scary for small kids. There’s a lot of movies that are violent. Some of these ‘reality’ shows are not appropriate either.

(8) Kassi says:

I generally disagree with unecessary sex in television, especially when it’s graphic. But I also have a problem with refusing to say what may be controversial in the hopes that promoting abstinence will prevent teens from having sex. This tactic is full of crap. If discussing threesomes in a popular tv show means that they get to see that these things have consequences (and if you bothered to watch the episodes that followed, the threesome messed up some important friendships and relationships), they may be better prepared to avoid participating in one all together.
Just be glad that if there was sex on the show, it was consentual. You can’t bury teenagers’ heads in the sand. Chances are, even if you’ve tried to protect them from stuff like this, they are watching porn all the time, having sexually graphic conversations, are likely sexually active already, and will seek it out if it isn’t offered to them. Preparation is the only weapon you have. Stop attacking TV shows and take some responsibility. Be a real parent and have a candid conversation with your kids.

(9) Kassi says:

Oh, and I forgot to mention, perhaps you should be monitoring what your kids watch more often? I could see it being an issue if this show had ever been at all wholesome and that this threesome was a blindsiding shocker- but Serena boffs her best friend’s boyfriend in the very first episode. Blair loses her virginity in the back of a limo to a guy she doesn’t even LIKE. Serena’s continuous drinking and gratuitous, public drug use, not to mention the negligent homicide with Georgina, is pretty much an underline on the fact that this show was NEVER safe territory for ‘impressionable teens’.

America : Christian

Manage a trois: Devils` work

People are naive to think that TV is the only culprit here :) i.e. THE INTERNET, PEOPLE!!

Ah but you can`t control that now, can you?

Perhaps it would be wise to teach kids not to go off their emotions and weigh up the consequences of any given situation.

eg that threesome will enrich\jeopardise our lives.

Parents can only do their best.

(11) oscar says:

the writes have the right to express themselves, it’s covered in the constitution.

but what about the parents who don’t want their children to see this kind of trash? they don’t have rights?
parents can’t be watching their children 24/7 to protect them from every piece of garbage thrust into their lives…these writers are infringing upon the freedoms of the parents of these teens through media saturation.

the only possible moral future involves no more television sets in the house….and i’m all for that.
