Fan Rally to Save Gilmore Girls

When viewers fall in love with a series and learn that it's in danger of cancellation, something wonderful happens -- they all band together with their common interests and fight to save their beloved show. Years ago, dedicated fans rallied to save Roswell via an intense internet campaign and sent thousands of bottles of Tabasco Sauce to the WB offices. The show had suffered from terrible ratings, but the network realized that there was an incredible fan base on the internet and renewed the series for another season. A new era had begun, helping to pave the way for future fan campaigns to do whatever possible to save their favorite series.

The latest big fan campaign is directed towards saving the CW's long-running dramedy, the Gilmore Girls. Sources tell me that the series itself isn't in danger of cancellation, the decision comes down to whether Alexis Beldel and Lauren Graham are willing to sign on for one more season.

Titled the Great8Mandate, the leaders have organized a sophisticated campaign that includes writing to cast members of the series and the network (complete with special stationary), information on contacting major news outlets to get the word out, and contact information for Alexis Bledel's publicist.

The passion these fans feel is incredible and truly pays homage to the producers and actors who have touched the hearts of millions of viewers all over the world. I asked some of the campaigners to tell us how they feel about Gilmore Girls and this is what they had to say:

Ashley from Florida....
"Every Tuesday night, I don't feel as though I'm watching television, I feel as though I'm meeting with friends. When you watch a show for seven years without fail, you come to feel as though you know the characters, and it really wouldn't be fair to anyone to not give Gilmore Girls a proper final season. The show has helped so many of us evolve into the people we are, and we've watched them mature. It would be harsh to not let us experience the characters succeeding at everything we have watched them work so hard for. There absolutely MUST be one more season... it's only right."

Heidi from California and administrator of www.Gilmoregirls.org
"Gilmore Girls is the kind of show that other shows should strive to be like. As a viewer, you're treated to everything from drama to witty banter from some of the best actors on television. It's refreshing to watch a show that deals with intricate relationships and because the writing and acting is so good, fans feel for the characters as they go through their ups and downs. That's not easy to come by; it's a testament to all involved in the show."

Melissa from Minnesota and active participant on www.Gilmoregirls.org
"Gilmore Girls has been the love of my life for the past seven years, it's the only show that I schedule things around to make sure that I get to see each week, its characters have been there to help carry me through life! There just has to be a season 8, as there is so much left to tie up and Gilmore Girls deserves a special last season! The fans who love Gilmore Girls, REALLY love Gilmore Girls, they believe in the show, they love the show, they KNOW the show! If there is one show to save, it's Gilmore Girls because they deserve it.... because we deserve it!"

Can this fan campaign help convince the actors to re-sign with the series that made them stars? That remains to be seen, but one thing's for sure -- the folks at Great8Mandate are doing everything possible to bring this excellent series back for season eight.
