This January, all the television networks will do their usual mid-season shuffle, adding new shows, premiering old favorites, and generally turning the schedule upside down.

New Mid-Season Shows Premiering in March and April Already Premiered

"24"

This winter, we see the return of " 24." When we left off last season, Jack Bauer's death was faked so he could escape a life of torture at the hands of the Chinese government. The only people who know he's alive are Tony, Michelle, Chloe, and President Palmer.

"The Shield"

"The Shield" returns in January. When we left off last season, Vic and the Strike Team managed to send Antwon to prison for a very long time. It didn't come without a sacrifice: Monica was fired because of her refusal to cooperate with the DEA. At the end of the finale, Monica meets with the IAD agent she had hired to investigate Vic. He reveals that there is now an informant who can testify that Lem took the kilo of heroin. Monica walks away from the situation, as there isn't anything she can do about the problem. "The Shield" returned on January 10, 2006 on FX.

"The Sopranos"

After what seemed like an eternity, "The Sopranos" finally returns this March on HBO. When we last had a "sit down" with the family, Tony and Johnny Sack finally made peace with each other, but their reunion is short-lived when the FBI shows up. Johnny is caught, while Tony escapes to safety. After speaking to his lawyer, Tony learns they weren't after him; the FBI only wanted Johnny, as it was a Brooklyn sting operation. "The Sopranos" returns March 12, 2006 on HBO.

"South Beach"

New on the scene this January is the one-hour drama, "South Beach" on UPN. In "South Beach," best friends Matt Evans and Vincent abandon their world as they know it and head to the alluring paradise of sandy beaches, beautiful people and hot spots in glamorous South Beach, Florida. "South Beach" premiered on January 11, 2006 on UPN.

Already Cancelled

"The Book of Daniel"

"The Book of Daniel" is a provocative, edgy and compelling new drama starring Aidan Quinn as Reverend Daniel Webster, an unconventional Episcopalian minister who not only believes in Jesus, he actually sees him and discusses life with him. Webster is challenged on many levels as he struggles to be a good husband, father and minister, while trying to control a nagging addiction to prescription painkillers, and an often rocky relationship with the church hierarchy, led by Bishop Beatrice Congreve (Ellen Burstyn), and Roger Paxton, a senior warden of the parish and stalwart churchgoer (Dylan Baker). "The Book of Daniel" premieres on January 6, 2006 on NBC.
