Emma Swan's life is completely turned upside down when her biological son Henry knocks on her door and explains to her that she is the long lost daughter of the fairytale characters Snow White and Prince Charming.
As a bounty hunter, Emma is familiar with criminal behavior, which is why she isn't prepared to leave her son in the hands of her adoptive mother Regina. Regina has made life as difficult as possible for Emma in Storybrooke, making her more positive than ever that Henry might not be safe living with this evil woman.

"Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?" We all remember the story of Snow White and how the evil queen gave her an apple that would (temporarily) kill her greatest competition in fairytale land and make her the fairest of all. In this version, the evil queen has placed a curse on everyone in fairytale world where they would be frozen in time and brought to our modern world, where they would have no memory of who they really are or where they came from. Regina is Henry's adoptive mother and the mayor or Storybrooke. Whether or not she has any memory that she is the evil queen in fairytale world is unknown, but we suspect she knows exactly who she is!

Henry is Emma's biological son and Regina's adoptive child. After getting his hands on a book of fairytales, Henry goes on a mission to identify and warn all of the characters in his book -- including his real mother Emma, who is the only person from the fairytale world that wasn't affected by the curse. While most think he's crazy, Emma is slowly beginning to believe that all is not right in the town of Storybrooke.
Snow White/Mary Margaret Blanchard (Played by Ginnifer Goodwin)

She is the fairest in all the land, the one who lived with seven dwarves and the one who ate the poisoned apple and awoken by Prince Charming. Snow White is one of the most famous of all the tales and in this version, the evil queen has placed a curse on her that would trap her in the modern day world where she would have no memory of who she is. In this world, Mary Margaret is a school teacher with no social life. She quickly strikes up a friendship with Emma Swan and the two become roommates. She has a special relationship with Henry (she is his grandmother after all) and is one of the few who he trusts explicitly.

In the fairytale, Rumplestiltskin spun straw into gold, but it came with a price. Rumplestiltskin made a deal with the evil queen and helped her place the curse.. at a price naturally. In the modern day world, he is known as Mr. Gold and owns most of Storybrooke -- and still makes deals that cost his unsuspecting victims much more than a few bucks. It is believed that he also remembers where he comes from.
Prince Charming/David (Played by Josh Dallas)

In the fairytale world, we know him as Prince Charming, but in the modern day world, he was first introduced as a man in a coma they named John Doe. Several episodes in, we learn his name is David and he has a wife... who is not Snow White.
Sheriff Graham (Played by Jamie Dornan)

In the modern day world, the Sheriff is Regina's "enforcer" and lover. We have not yet seen him in fairytale world. Perhaps he is the Sheriff of Nottingham from Robin Hood... or even Robin Hood himself?
