Enhance Your Television Viewing Experience with Podcasts Continued.....

By Rachel Thomas, About.com

Q: If I were searching for a Podcast dedicated to a show such as Heroes, what would be the best way to find a Podcast that is of good quality tech-wise? And personality-wise? And what if I want one that concentrated on specific areas of a show such as spoilers, news, theories, etc.? Is there any kind of review systems in place or is this simply trial and error?
  • Cliff: "Trial and error is the best way to go about finding the Podcast that meets your needs. Many Podcast directories have review systems. However, a main flaw is that these reviews are most unmoderated and are more full of "flaming" messages from folks who don't like the podcast for one reason or another. I find that I often disagree with a majority of the reviews that are out there, unless a Podcaster has really pressed for their listeners to leave feedback on these directories explaining what they love about the show."

  • Jay & Jack: "If I were searching for a Podcast dedicated to a show such as Heroes, what would be the best way to find a Podcast that is of good quality tech-wise? And personality-wise? And what if I want one that concentrated on specific areas of a show such as spoilers, news, theories, etc.? Are there any kind of review systems in place or is this simply trial and error?

It really is a matter of opinion, no matter what reviews say. Your opinion matters most, trial and error seems to work best. Pick out 3 to 5 Podcasts related to Heroes and see if any of those meet your needs. I not keep searching. Ask around on forums, and friends and see if they have a favorite that they listen too."
Q: Do any celebrities run Podcasts?
  • Cliff: "With the Battlestar Galactica Podcast, you can listen to exclusive commentary by executive producer Ronald D. Moore about each episode. However, this is the only one that I'm aware of. The charm of the Podcast is that just an average Joe can become a celebrity by doing a Podcast devoted to a TV show. I do a Podcast about Lost and several of the show's cast and crew listen to our show on a weekly basis. Some have even called into our voice mail comment line to comment on things we say in our Podcast."

  • Jay & Jack: "Yes celebrities run Podcasts as well, especially musicians. The legendary Quincy Jones recently started his own Podcast."
Q: Are the majority of Podcasts on iTunes TV related?
  • Cliff: "Absolutely not! I believe that the technology and business sections beat out Podcasts devoted to TV shows. However, there is nearly a Podcast devoted to just about any topic, hobby, or passion you might have. If not, it's not difficult for you to start one of your own."

  • Jay & Jack: "No, there is a wide range of Podcasts relating to anything you could really think of. Podcasts related to specific TV shows really didn't start to develop until the first couple fan Lost Podcasts like ours came about."
Q: What does the future hold for Podcasting? (technology-wise, listener interaction, etc.)
  • Cliff: "I started out with just my laptop and a microphone. Today, I have a full studio in my home where my wife and I broadcast our shows live via high quality audio and video on the internet and people from all over the world join us and call in live just like you would hear on a radio talk show. The future is now! Honestly, I believe that the future of Podcasting is where our content will be put right next to the major network's content on future television sets that will use the Internet to deliver content rather than airwaves, cable, or satellite."

  • Jay & Jack: "With the advent of the iPhone more video content will be developed, and as the technology is improved more and more live Podcasting will be utilized."
