He may only be in his twenties, but Will Estes has achieved more in his life than most people in the acting field do in their entire careers. I was lucky enough to have the chance to chat with Will Estes of Fox's "Reunion." I found Will to be an incredibly down-to-earth and warm guy who truly appreciates his profession and all the opportunities he's been given.
Q: I've heard you're an avid animal lover, does this stem from your days on "Lassie?"
Will: I've always been an animal lover. I've grown up with dogs my whole life. I think that is what helped me get the role on "Lassie," I was comfortable around the dog, where many of the kids were afraid or intimidated by Lassie.
Q: "Reunion" is a show with a great premise, but with each episode a year in time and the season catching up with present day, what are the plans for next season and beyond?
Will: I'm not sure, they may have a new cast, maybe with a character from this season to help bridge it together somehow. By the time this season is finished, the characters will be 38 years old.
Q: Your character on the show took the blame and went to jail, would you do the same for your best friend?
Will: (Laughs) A lot of people have asked me that. Will Malloy thought he was going to get probation, so it was too late to get out of the situation. I don't think he realized how this would alter the course of his life and the plans he had for the future. I think he also thought that by taking the blame, he was making up for the fact that he had slept with his best friends girlfriend.
Q: What episode are you currently filming?
Will: Episode seven, I believe it is "1993."
Q: What can you tell us about upcoming episodes?
Will: There is a wedding coming up. Much of the future episodes will deal with the friendship these six characters share and how it affects their future.
Q: Does the cast have a good relationship with each other?
Will: Yeah we do. We hang out together and make plans with each other when we're not filming.
Q: Aside from your show, do you watch anything else?
Will: I don't really get a chance to watch much television. I mostly watch BBC Worldwide and repeats of "Seinfeld" and "Everybody Loves Raymond."
Q: When you found out "Reunion" was going to be up against shows like "C.S.I." and "Night Stalker," did you find that daunting?
Will: No. That is something that is out of my control, so I just film my scenes and keep it out of my mind.
Q: If you could play any role, what would it be?
Will: Harrison Ford in "Bladerunner."
Q: What was your favorite role?
Will: I loved doing sitcoms. I had a director who told me a story about a fan who had commented on how nice it was to see her sister laughing and how happy the show made her. I like to make people happy and make them laugh.
Q: What advice would you offer teenagers who wanted to get into the field of acting?
Will: I'd say you have to be really committed to the field, show up for every audition and to be aware that very few make it in this field.
Q: If you weren't an actor, what would you be?
Will: That's a tough question; I've been acting since I was 10. My dad was an entrepreneur, so I guess something along those lines. I wouldn't want a 9-5 job.
Q: Were there ever any roles you were offered that you wish you had taken?
Will: No -- no regrets.
Q: What charities do you hold closest to your heart?
Will: Best Friends and The Humane Society of the US
Q: Is there anything you want to say to the fans?
Will: Thanks for your support and keep watching "Reunion" on Thursdays at 9pm on Fox.
