'Grey's Anatomy' Season 5 Synopsis (Spoilers)

After spending some time in therapy, Meredith finally allowed herself to embark on a real relationship with Derek. The couple remained committed to each other throughout the entire season (although he went through a difficult emotional spot for a few episodes), culminating in a proposal and ultimately.... vows written on a Post It.

While Meredith had a breezy season, Izzie had the complete opposite experience. After spending several months having a relationship with Denny (yes, dead Denny), Izzie discovered that she was actually suffering from a very serious and deadly form of melanoma. She married Alex and then flat-lined in the final minutes of the season finale.

Spending a year getting over Burke, Cristina found love again with Dr. Owen Hunt, the newest doctor at Seattle Grace. The relationship didn't come without a serious amount of baggage as the handsome doc was haunted by memories of his past -- almost killing poor Cristina in the process.

Bailey went through a year of changes and self-discovery, as did Callie -- who has finally realized that she may very well be a lesbian.

Mark and Lexie began a hot and heavy covert affair.

Sadly, George suffered from a serious lack of storyline and was killed off in the final minutes of the shocking finale.

How Does Season 5 Measure Up?

I don't think I'm alone in feeling that Grey's Anatomy came very close to "jumping the shark" in season 5. Many fans were angered by George's lack of airtime, while many felt that the show seemed to have lost its magic somewhere along the way. Izzie's fight for her life provided many, many heartfelt moments, while on the flip side, Meredith and Derek's relationship gave us something to smile about every week. The last handful of episodes seemed to bring the series back on track -- but will it be enough to bring the lost fans back into the fold?

Is 'Grey's Anatomy' Worth Your Hard-Earned Cash?

While many feel that season 5 was lackluster, most of these storylines were vital to the progression of the series as a whole. On a personal level, I was satisfied with this season and I do honestly feel the DVD is worth every cent -- a must to add to your growing Grey's collection!
