'Lost' Season Four Makes Big Changes

Six survive to become the Oceanic 6....

For three seasons, viewers were provided with a multitude of background information about the main characters via flashbacks. With the end of the series now at the halfway mark, the show switches gears in dramatic fashion by offering viewers a glimpse into the future via flash forwards.

As a freighter carrying very dangerous people makes its way towards Lost island, we learn that six main characters have made it back home: Jack, Kate, Sayid, Hurley, Sun and Aaron. Season four of Lost delves into the events that lead up to their rescue and the survivor guilt they are left to deal with in the aftermath of their ordeal.

What We Learned in Season Four

Some highlights in season four of Lost include (don't read unless you've already watched the entire season!):
  • Aaron believes that Kate is his mother.
  • Jack won't know that Claire is his sister until he leaves the island.
  • Michael returns as one if the freighter people, but is really acting as Ben's spy.
  • Despite attempting suicide several times, Michael is unable to die while on the mainland.
  • Ben knows how to control the black smoke monster.
  • Jack and Kate become a couple after they return home.
  • Locke continues to believe in the island and eventually becomes the leader of the Others.
  • Time is different on the island, but we're not sure whether it moves faster or slower.
  • Christian Shepard continues to pop up all over the place and appears to be a major piece of the puzzle.
  • Hurley sees dead people after he leaves the island.
  • Sayid becomes a hit man for Ben back on the mainland.
  • Sun gives birth to a healthy baby after she arrives home.
  • There are still many, many questions that continue to go unanswered!

Is 'Lost' Season 4 Worth Your Hard-Earned Cash?

Like a fine wine, Lost just seems to get better with age! As a faithful viewer since day one, this series has never failed to keep me captivated -- even in the hours following each episode. Although many fans have voiced frustration over the never ending unanswered questions, there is no doubt in my mind that everything will become clear one day and the final payoff will be as big as it gets on television.

Each carefully planned minute of Lost is worth your hard-earned cash. Viewers can take heart in knowing that buying each season on DVD will eventually culminate in a full collection of what I feel is the best show ever made for television.

Season four may have been cut short thanks to the writers strike, this DVD set took no shortcuts in the bonus department. The bloopers allow fans to see how much fun this cast has on set in Hawaii. Die-hard fans will definitely want to check out the deleted scenes and the mobisode episodes as they offer more clues into the fantastic journey that is Lost.

One of my favorite features is "The Island Backlot," where viewers are given the opportunity to understand how location scenes such as London and Iraq are created on the island of Oahu. Did you know that the show was almost filmed in New Zealand or Los Angeles?

Another must-see feature is "Lost on Location," in which viewers can get a better understanding of how specific season four scenes are created (Hurley's papaya smashing scene is incredible).

Add season four to your collection, I promise you won't be sorry!
