2006 TV Drama Finale Recaps

By Rachel Thomas, About.com

We have a love/hate relationship with those season finale cliffhangers. On one hand, when a show has a particularly big cliffhanger, we agonize for the next four months about what happened. On the other hand, these cliffhangers are what great television is all about! Need to play catch-up on what happened on the season finales of your favorite shows? Look no further; we've got the run-down right here.

24: It seemed like such a sweet ending was in the works; in fact, I was a little worried that things were going too well. The President was arrested, Audrey and Jack reconciled, Kim was calling for Jack and even Bill Buchanan and Karen Hayes had a promising romantic future. And then....Jack is kidnapped, beaten within an inch of his life and his assailants are revealed to be representatives from the Chinese government. When Jack begs them to kill him, he is told he is much too valuable to them to die. The next twenty-four hours of 24 will most likely take place not too long after where the finale left off. The season premiere is slated for January, 2007.

7th Heaven: The surprise renewal after the "series finale" came as a big shock to millions of fans. Not much was left "hanging," but the series did end with the announcement of three sets of twins joining the Camden family in the coming months. Simon and Rose decided not to go through with their wedding. Sandy showed up with the baby in tow and told Simon they needed to talk. Is Simon the father after all?

CSI: As Brass clung to life, he did make it out of the woods. The big shocker came at the very end when Grissom is in a robe and is chatting with another woman (also clad in a robe), who happens to be.....Sarah!

CSI Miami: The season-long guessing game about the identity of the mole was finally revealed to be Natalia, who had been working undercover for months.

Desperate Housewives: The second season might not have been as fantastic as season one, but the finale definitely stepped it up a notch and laid the groundwork for season three. Zach killed his grandfather by unplugging his life support and acquired his entire estate. The Applewhite mystery was solved as Betty realized that Matthew, not Caleb was the one who murdered his girlfriend. As Danielle and Matthew prepared to run away, Bree stopped them and Matthew held a gun on her. A sniper's bullet struck and killed Matthew. As Mike was headed to a very special dinner with Susan, he was run over by Orson, the dentist.

Lynette discovered that Tom didn't cheat, he found out he was the father of a child from a brief encounter he had 12 years ago. The mother and child are moving just a few minutes away from Wisteria Lane. Gaby discovered Carlos and Xiao-Mei are having an affair, so she threw Carlos out and told Xiao-Mei that she will stay with her until she has the baby.

Criminal Minds: While JJ is playing on the computer at BAU, the killer hacks into the system and learns the location of all the BAU members, who are all on vacation. While on vacation, every member of the BAU receives a different clue from a serial killer, forcing them to all come back from vacation to try and piece the clues together. After being up for 72 hours, Elle is sent home. When she arrives, a hand comes out of the dark and its the serial killer. A gun goes off, but it is unclear as to who was shot.

ER: When Sam's ex takes the ER hostage, Luka is attacked and must be partially intabated by Sam. When shots are fired, Abby falls to the ground, but doesn't appear to have been shot. Sam is taken hostage and she soon discovers her ex has kidnapped her son. As Luka struggles to survive, he sees Abby collapse near the door to his room. We see blood coming from Abby, who lays unconscious on the floor as the episode ends.

Grey's Anatomy: Izzie risks Denny's life in order to beat out another heart transplant recipient, who made it to the list 17 seconds before Denny. Denny receives the heart, proposes to Izzie (who accepts), but dies soon after the surgery. Burke makes it through surgery, but his hand is left damaged. The season-long sexual tension between Meredith and Derek results in a passionate encounter. As the episode ends, Meredith sees Finn, who asks her to come home with him, but Derek wants her to go with him. Who will Meredith choose?

Las Vegas: As Delinda is about to get married, she continues to wonder if she is doing the right thing and leaves her room and runs to Danny. Ed, who had been contacted by his former CIA associates, opens the door to his hotel room and a gun is fired.
