The Race Factor: Isaiah Cries Racism

Friday June 29, 2007
The Isaiah situation, which has grown to gigantic proportions, now heads into racism territory. A week after being fired from Grey's Anatomy, Isaiah Washington went on record last week as saying that the whole situation with the homophobic slur was greatly exaggerated and that T.R. Knight deserved to be fired. This week, Washington kicked it up a notch and is now accusing the network of racism. In an interview with Newsweek, the actor says that people felt threatened by him because he "wasn't a mush-mouth Negro walking around with his head in his hands all the time."

Washington told Newsweek:
"Someone heard the booming voice of a black man and got really scared and that was the beginning of the end for me."
He also revealed that there is no rehab for homophobia and that ABC was simply trying to appease his co-workers and fans. Whatever the case may be, the actor certainly isn't doing any favors for himself by constantly dredging up this awful situation to anyone who will listen.

Washington used a homophobic slur, whether you believe his story that it WASN’T aimed at TR Knight, or not. However, he’s made everything worse, several times over, by “picking at the scab” and putting blame on everybody but himself. He was good as Dr. Burke, but certainly not irreplaceable.
