The Emmy Will Not Go to Katherine Heigl

Thursday June 12, 2008
What a difference a year makes -- after winning the Emmy last year for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama, Grey's Anatomy star Katherine Heigl announced that she has decided to keep herself out of the running for an Emmy this year.

Why would an actor choose to remove themselves from television's highest honor? Heigl's publicist released the following statement to Los Angeles Gold Derby Blog:
"I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination and in an effort to maintain the integrity of the academy organization, I withdrew my name from contention. In addition, I did not want to potentially take away an opportunity from an actress who was given such materials."
Is Heigl really blaming the Grey's writing team? Could she possibly be trying to find a way to get out of her contract with the show? Last year, the actress made no secret of her contract negotiation troubles with Touchstone, so I just can't help but wonder if she is simply looking to move on to greener pastures.

One thing is for sure -- getting on the wrong side of Shonda Rhimes and the writing staff at Grey's Anatomy isn't going to make life fun on the set anytime soon!

GOOD! I am GLAD that Katherine Heigl has removed herself from the running. She can’t act anyway, and this way, it will leave a slot open for someone who REALLY deserves this award!!! I’m not sure if she would be considered a lead actress or a supporting actress, but an award should DEFINITELY go to Natalie Dormer who played Anne Boleyn on The Tudors! Her performance was acting PERFECTION, not like the mediocre performance by Heigl! There is absolutely no comparison!! As a matter of fact, the writers should FIRE this ungrateful actress if she thinks the material they wrote for her isn’t worthy of an award – what an attitude!!! Leave the acting to the pros, Ms. Heigl – you are not even in the same league as Natalie Dormer so don’t even bother trying!!!

Made her seem too stupid.

I am glad that she is not in the running for an Emmy. She is overrated and full of herself! Please let someone who is more deserving win the Emmy!
