Q: Did you always want to become an actress?
Barbara: "I knew I always wanted to perform. I didn't quite understand how you became an actress. From early on, probably when I was my younger daughter's age (3) when I started watching "The Sound of Music," I knew I needed to perform in some way. I think it was later on in life when an agent approached me that I started to figure out how you do that. I had a wonderful theater coach in high school who introduced me to some people at the college I attended, I auditioned for a theater scholarship, and I got it, so I got a full ride to go to Northern Illinois. If I hadn't gotten that scholarship, I might not have even gone this route, I love English and I might have become an English teacher."
Q: What kind of advice do you have for people who want to get into the field of acting?
Barbara: "Get rid of the stars in your eyes. If you want to be an actor, don't think about becoming a starlet, think about learning your craft and gaining experience wherever you can....community theater and classes. On a much larger scale, start dabbling in some commercials. Don't move to New York or Los Angeles and think you're going to become a star overnight because the smaller steps you take, the more staying power you'll have."
Q: What TV shows do you watch?
Barbara: "I love "Lost," "Surface" (her husband works on the show) and "American Idol."
Q: What is your favorite movie?
Barbara: "The Sound of Music." I love musicals -- "Camelot" is a close second. I'm introducing my kids to all of those movies when they're young. I'm so grateful to my mom for introducing me to all of these movies, it shaped everything for me."
Q: What is in your CD player right now?
Barbara: "We were just listening to Kids Bop 8. It's all about kids right now."
Q: You've worked with some pretty big names in the business, who was your favorite actor to work with?
Barbara: "I fell in love with Dennis Quaid. Unfortunately, he was happily married at the time to Meg Ryan, who is also another one of my favorites. Dennis was such a gentleman and so attractive. Matt Dillon also was much the same. I never knew I was a fan of his until I worked with him; he's such an accessible guy. I also worked with Peter Scolari for years. He taught me so much about comedy and I'm so grateful to him for that."
Q: What's your ringtone?
Barbara: "What a great question, I have the sound of a telephone ringing. I love it, I just went back to the basics."
Q: And finally, is there anything you'd like to say to the fans?
Barbara: "Please keep watching and please keep writing in. Our producer Mark reads everything and he loves comments. He really listens and tries to respond, it means a lot to him. He really listens to the fans and he really cares. Keep writing! Oh, and tell him you want more Deb!"
