'The Walking Dead' Synopsis and Other Essential Information

Premise:

When Deputy Sheriff Rick Grimes awakens from a coma after being shot, he discovers that his world has been completely turned upside down by a zombie Apocalypse. As the flesh-eating undead walk the streets looking for the living (human or animal) to feed on, Rick and his group must constantly be on guard in order to stay alive.

When is it on?:

Sundays at 10:00 pm ET on AMC. Although the latest episodes are not available to watch on AMC's official The Walking Dead website, they do have Webisodes available for viewing.

If You Like...:

The storyline for the The Walking Dead is very similar to the alien invasion TV series Falling Skies on TNT, where instead of zombies, aliens have taken over the world and it's up to the living to fight them in order to survive.

Trivia:

  • The series is based on the highly successful comic book series written by Robert Kirkman, who was present during the filming of the first season. The pilot episode spans the first six issues of the comic book series.
  • Sarah Wayne Callies starred as Dr. Sara Tancredi in the popular Fox action series Prison Break. Her character was in love with prisoner Michael Scofield.
  • Not all of the characters portrayed on the show appear in the comic book series.
  • None of the characters in the first season actually ever say the word zombie. They are referred to as Walkers or Geeks.
  • The series is filmed in Atlanta and Peachtree City, Georgia.
  • The first season consisted of 6 episodes.

'The Walking Dead' Characters:

Rick Grimes: The Deputy Sheriff who keeps order among the camp. Before the zombie apocalypse, Rick and Shane were partners on the force. He is married to Lori and has a son named Carl. Before he was shot, his marriage was is trouble, which probably made it easier for his wife to begin a relationship with Shane. He is always the one to do the right thing and is a natural-born leader.

Lori Grimes: Rick's wife and Carl's mother. Lori's a tough cookie who doesn't isn't afraid to speak her mind. Believing her husband was dead, she began having an affair with Rick's former partner, Shane.

Shane Walsh: Rick's former partner and best friend. After believing that Rick had died in the hospital, Shane found Lori and Carl and led them to safety and has been keeping them from harm's way ever since. He and Lori began having an affair after they believe Rick died, but their relationship ended the minute Rick showed up at the camp.

Glenn: As a pizza delivery driver, Glenn knows every shortcut in Atlanta, which has come in handy on more than one occasion when he has had to go into town to get supplied for the camp. Glenn saved Rick's life when he was trapped inside an army tank and surrounded by walkers.

T-Dog: One of the members of the camp, T-Dog is constantly riddled with guilt over leaving his nemesis Merle on top of the roof of the department store.

Andrea: Before the apocalypse, Andrea was a civil rights lawyer. Never afraid to stand up to a challenge, Andrea's main purpose in life is to keep her sister Amy safe from the walkers.

Dale: Dale was ready to travel the country in his RV before his wife died of cancer. When the apocalypse hit, he found Andrea and Amy and the three started the camp and he has been a father figure to them both.

Carl: Rick and Lori's sweet and shy son. When he thought his father was dead, Carl and Shane formed a close relationship.
